Medical contact lens prices have dropped significantly in the past three years, with many brands now being more affordable.
In the US, a study conducted by medical device maker and manufacturer of contact lenses and contact lens contacts in India found that medical contacts lenses are now selling for Rs 8,600 per pair, compared to Rs 11,400 per pair in 2014.
Medical contacts lenses were one of the most popular products of the medical device market in India, with the market share rising from 1.2% in 2014 to 2.3% in 2017, according to an industry report.
According to the Indian Medical Council, in 2019, there were 4.7 million people using contact lenses in India.
But the number of patients undergoing surgery for eye conditions like cataracts, macular degeneration, retinal detachment and macular atrophy has fallen significantly, and only 6.6% of patients in 2020 were using medical contact lens products.
