According to a survey from The Atlantic, Americans are spending more than $1 billion annually on contact lenses and cosmetics, with a whopping $1.1 billion spent on eye makeup alone.
The survey also revealed that women spend more than double the average amount on contact lens maintenance and prescription eye makeup.
In fact, the average woman spends an average of $27.00 per year on eye and contact lenses.
According to the survey, women spent $25.57 on contact lenses and $27 on prescription eye cosmetics.
For men, $8.19 on contact and $3.39 on prescription makeup.
The Atlantic survey was conducted online and over the phone.
It also asked people about the most common reasons people buy contact lenses:Safety, protection, aesthetics, comfort, comfort with makeup, affordability, and affordability.
